India, with over one billion inhabitants, is the second most populous country in the world. It has realised an impressive economic growth in the past decade. Nonetheless, the poverty of large parts of its population remains enormous. The country needs to solve large social and economic problems if it wants to get away from rank 134 in the UN Human Development Index.
