In the field of health, like with education, much work is to be done. To give a few examples, children born in the south are over 13 times more likely to die within the first five years of life than children born in an industrialized country. Every minute a woman dies of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, and 99 per cent of them live and die in developing countries.  The vast majority of people infected with HIV – 33 million in 2007 – live south of the Sahara. There are c. 500 million cases of malaria worldwide each year, and the disease annually kills over 800,000 children under five in sub-Saharan Africa.

As most diseases and viruses leading to these deaths are avoidable or curable if people would have access to basic health care, we invest in health centres in Africa. We run dispensaries and set up information campaigns in the D.R. Congo, in Tanzania and on the Comoros Islands. Our aim, above all, is to contribute to the Millennium Development Goals 4-6: reduce child mortality, improve maternal health as well as combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
