The Democratic Republic of the Congo has one of the most valuable and diverse concentrations of natural resources in the world,
which constitutes a major opportunity for favourable social and economic development. However, wars, mismanagement and widespread corruption have thrown the country into a deep crisis. According to the UN Human Development Report 2009, the DRC has Human Development Index rank 176 out of 182.
Most Congolese live in extreme poverty on less than
1 $ a day.
Convinced that focusing on schooling and health is the way forward to improve human development in a sustainable way, we have developed a large network of educational and health centres in the Katanga province. It stretches from the cities of Lubumbashi and Kolwezi to the landlocked rural regions of Sandoa, Kapanga and Kalamba. |
