The Comoros are an archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean north-west of Madagascar. While Mayotte is administered by France, the three other islands constitute the Union of the Comoros. Ranked 139th in the 2007 UN Human Development Index, the Union is one of the world's poorest countries. It is politically unstable, has few natural resources, high unemployment, a low educational level, and a poor health system.
Convinced that we can make a difference in health care to the mainly Islamic population, we run 14 health centres on Grande Comore (in Bahani, M’Bangani, Dibwani, Mwandzaza, N’Druwani, Sidju, Dembeni, Ifundihe, Simbusa and Tsinimwapanga), on Anjouan (in Mutsamudu) and on Mohéli (in Fomboni).
